Spiced Apple Chutney

My kids are so hot and cold on apples. I buy a bag each week, and they either eat them in record time, or won’t touch them with a 10-foot pole. When faced with the latter, I try my best to find creative ways to use the excess. This Spiced Apple Chutney is a tasty and fun way to use all the extra apples sitting around your kitchen.

Chutneys originate from India and are sweet, tart, and even spicy condiments made of fruits and/or vegetables. Making chutney is so easy; you are basically cooking down produce to concentrate the flavors, and create an almost jammy consistency. Chutneys are also incredibly versatile! They are delicious when served on toast or biscuits, as an element on charcuterie boards, or even as a garnish to creamy vegetable soups.

This Spiced Apple Chutney uses shallots and fresh ginger to offset the sweetness from the apples, and is rounded out with the flavors of maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg. This delightful condiment is a welcome addition to any meal period, and a treat the whole family will enjoy.

This chutney looks so delicious! We are big chutney fans and will have to give it a try. It would be delicious as an alternative to the mango chutney we serve with our curry and would be terrific with Thanksgiving dinner!
